Creating a Sticky Childhood

Creating a Sticky Childhood

I know that you are probably reading this title thinking "Hey my kids are sticky right now. They are covered in Syrup or Peaches or whatever" No that is not the sticky I mean.

At my old job once a quarter the head honchos would come and visit us lowly workers. We would have a two-hour meeting where they basically fluffed us and got us energized to make it through the next quarter.  These meeting always came right as morale was going down. It was always the time of the quarter where things have gotten boring.

Well at the last quarterly meeting, the "Top Dog" was talking about “Creating a Sticky Experience” for the client. Every interaction should be meaningful and stick with them. At the time of this meeting I didn’t get it. Now that I have had sometime to reflect I know this carries over to my new job "Mommy CEO". My job is to create Sticky Experiences for my boys. I want to do things that they can remember and will stay with them forever.

When they do leave the nest what things will they remember? I’m sure that they remember big things like trips to Disney or Lego Land. But they also remember little things like the times we paid the toll for the car behind us. He remembers the time Dad brought a pizza for the hungry family. That time we helped Grandpa paint his house.

I want to make sure that I do things in my everyday life that are creating the right kind of sticky experiences for my kids. I want to teach them to pay it forward. It is so important.

Ask your kids about their favorite times with Mom and Dad? Comment Below what they said.

Spanish Rice-A-Roni Meal

Hello Everyone!!! I am so excited to share with you a favorite meal in my house. This is something we eat at least 3 or 4 times a month.

It all started while I was pregnant and on a serious Rice A Roni kick. I ate it all the time when I was a kid and wanted it all the time. My poor husband wanted a variety so we tried the recipe and IT WAS AMAZING!! This is such an inexpensive meal it costs about 7 dollars and feeds 4-5 people. We always have left overs for lunch the next day.

All you need is:

  • 1/2 Onion diced
  • 1 Green Pepper diced
  • 1 box of Rice a Roni Spanish Rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 lb of Ground Beef

Just brown the ground beef and drain. Add the Rice a Roni, tomatoes, water, onion, seasoning and bring to a boil. Than simmer for about 15 mins.  Then add in the onion and peppers and stir leave there for about 5 minutes and voila AMAZING dinner!!!! The onions and green peppers are still nice and crunchy in contrast with the flavorful tomatoes.

This is my go to meal on a budget (read cheap LOL). So share with me your favorite "oh gosh we are broke meal"! I would love some new ideas. Also tell me if you try the recipe

Hello Everyone! How are you doing?  We are doing great here. Little Will is crawling everywhere now So I have to start baby proofing. I can not believe that he is 7 months old already.

Also Steven turned 7 last week!!! He is getting so big. I cannot believe it my little baby is not a baby anymore.  I want to post some pictures and talk a little bit about what our birthday traditions are in our home.

It all started for his 2nd Birthday. He had two working parents and neither of us could get the whole day off. We felt terrible so the night before his birthday while he was sleeping we decorated the entire house with balloons and streamers.  So when he woke up it felt like a party. Anyway we have done that every single year since then. He loves it and loves getting to open presents first thing J  The weekend before his birthday he had “Man Day” with my husband. Man Day is where its just the two of them doing man stuff. Hair cuts, mini golf, breakfast at waffle house.

This year we went with the Avengers Theme.

He really wants to make his own video blog so we got him a starter video camera. One that is not too expensive but captures pretty good images. He loves it so far. He is actually really into photography and videography so we will see where this passion takes him.

So tell me.  What are the birthday traditions in your house? How do you celebrate birthdays?

What are your kids really into right now?
